Grand Opening of the Entrepreneurship Center at Nunez - Friday, April 11, 2014

A grand opening ceremony for the Entrepreneurship Center at Nunez Community College will be held on Friday, April 11th, 2014 at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the Arts, Science & Technology (AST) building.

The new Entrepreneurship Center is intended to be a resource for Nunez’s students and community members interested in establishing their own businesses. Available services will include access to conference and meeting facilities, personal and group workspaces available at affordable hourly or daily rates, computer and IT services in the new iMac computer lab, Internet, administrative and IT support, and monthly workshops and networking opportunities with successful entrepreneurs.

Nunez Chancellor, Dr. Thomas R. Warner, says, "The new Entrepreneurship Center is a space our students and community members can come to get key business resources so they can turn that great idea into a real start-up.”

According to Vice Chancellor Teresa Smith, "The services this center will provide are not designed to compete with public or private resources already available in our service area. Rather, they should enhance and expand those services for our students.”

Smith, who heads up the Office of Institutional Advancement at the College, stated that the Center "should offer students opportunities for networking and mentoring” as well.

Local, successful entrepreneurs facilitate monthly workshops at the Center, covering an extensive array of entrepreneurial and business topics such as incubation, social media, marketing, financing, and management—all factors that small businesses and start-ups must master if they are to become profitable and sustainable. Recent workshop leaders include Dickie Brennan, Mike Indest, and Stephen Reuther.

Funding for the full-service Center comes from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career (TAACCCT) grant awarded to Nunez in August 2012.
