TITLE: CTE Tutor
Reports to: Director for Student Success
Employment Status: Part-Time
Job Summary
Career and Technical Education tutors will assist students with necessary skills required for successful completion of a Perkins-eligible Programs of Study. Uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to teach academic subjects, such as Math and English, students requiring private instruction, adapting curriculum to meet individual’s needs. It holds weekly office hours for students needing academic improvement and increases their understanding of a specific subject, developing basic skills and study skills, with or without computer-aided instruction.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Education or English.
- Specified academic subject or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of English to assist students with gateway courses such as English composition.
- Mastering appropriate and effective learning techniques and concepts for learners of different age levels.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Flexibility regarding work environment and ability to work with different types of learners.
- Openness to training and skills development.
- Ability to work with students one-on-one and in small groups.
- Availability to attend training and job orientation.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic support during assigned hours.
- Assist with homework. Explain concepts so that students understand.
- Review and offer feedback on written assignments.
- Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.
- Perform front desk activities, including scheduling, record-keeping, and tutoring-coordination.
- Develop a full working knowledge of academic skills development materials and strategies.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs, abilities and interests.
- Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement.
- As this position is 100% funded by the FY 2024-25 Perkins Grant, federally mandated time and effort statements must be completed monthly.

Application Materials
Candidates will be required to take an exam that tests their knowledge of the content they are to be tutoring in, such as expository writing, mathematics, or other skillsets necessary for successful completion of CTE courses. Candidates will also participate in a mock tutoring session.
