Position: Adjunct Instructor - Medical Office Management
Department: Health Sciences
Reports to: Dean of Nursing and Allied Health
Position Summary
The Medical Office Management Instructor plans, supports, and delivers instruction of medical office administration courses within the Patient Care Technician program.
The instructor teaches medical practice management and the systematizing of procedures, including utilization of computers. Teaches medical terminology through assigned reading, reporting and practical applications. Teaches and demonstrates the use of interrelationship between medical law, medical ethics, and medical etiquette in all administrative procedures. The instructor also contributes to curriculum development, program assessment, and student advisement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Associate Degree in a related field
- Three (3) years of related professional experience
- Experience with medical terminology, coding systems and healthcare reimbursement processes
Allowed Substitutions
- Technical Diploma in a related field will substitute for the Associate Degree
Preferred Education and Experience
- Current/unencumbered licensure
- Masters Degree in a related field
- 5+ years of related professional experience
- Higher Ed teaching experience
Duties and Responsibilities Summary
- Provides instruction in both face-to-face and online classes, including preparing and delivering curricula and supporting and maintaining a positive learning environment
- Teach theories and fundamentals of administrative duties, patient records management, and electronic medical records using software programs
- Fosters student learning, development, and workplace readiness through quality instruction and mentoring/advising activities
- Participates in assessment at the program, departmental, and college level for ongoing improvement and in relation to special tasks or projects
- Assists Program Chair with scheduling of Medical Billing and Coding courses
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health or Vice Chancellor for Education, Training, and Student Success
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of the content area and the ability to teach it effectively
- Effective classroom management, including maintaining a positive learning environment
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet skills
- Records Management, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and commitment to institutional mission and values and the ability to work with stakeholders across the college to achieve and uphold them
- Ability to cultivate partnerships with related program industry members and advisory committees
- Ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods
- Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery
- Ability to teach evening classes if needed
