Position:  Adjunct Instructor - Nursing Assistant (Workforce)
Department: Health Sciences
Reports to: Dean of Nursing and Allied Health

Position Summary
The Nursing Assistant Adjunct Instructor plans, supports, and delivers instruction in line with the requirements for students to become certified nursing assistants in the Patient Care Technician program. The Instructor also contributes to curriculum development, program assessment, and student advisement activities. The Instructor also attends clinicals with students.  This position requires availability to teach weekend (Friday/Saturday) classes.

Required Education & Experience

  • Have at least 2 years of nursing experience in caring for the elderly and/or chronically ill;
  • Have a current, unencumbered nursing license in the state of Louisiana; and
  • Have at least one (1) of the following:
    • Master’s Degree or above.
    • VTTIE.
    • CTTIE.
    • Train the trainer certificate.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of related professional experience.
  • Prior Higher Ed teaching experience.
  • RN preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities Summary:

  • Provides instruction in both face-to-face and online classes, including preparing and delivering curricula and supporting and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Prepares students for and coordinating with community partners clinical externships  including collection of and submission of all documentation required for externship.
  • Fosters student learning, development, and workplace readiness through quality instruction and mentoring/advising activities.
  • Participates in assessment at the program, departmental, and college level for ongoing improvement and in relation to special tasks or projects.
  • Assists Program Chair with scheduling of Nursing Assistant courses.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or anyone in the appropriate chain of command.

  • Extensive knowledge of the content area and the ability to teach it effectively.
  • Effective classroom management, including maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Records Management skills.
  • Knowledge and commitment to institutional mission and values and the ability to work with stakeholders across the college to achieve and uphold them.
  • Ability to cultivate partnerships with related program industry members and advisory committees.
  • Ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
  • Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery.
  • Ability to teach evening classes.
