Position: Benefits and Retirement Specialist

Position Summary
Nunez Community College is seeking a fulltime Benefits and Retirement Specialist, who will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of Nunez Community College’s insurance and retirement programs. These programs include, but are not limited to, health, life, voluntary insurance plans, TRSL, ORP, LASERS, and voluntary supplemental retirement plans.

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Substitutes

  • Associates degree with 2 years of experience or
  • 6 years of proven related work experience

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree
  • Banner experience

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enters premium deductions, demographics, and other relevant data into Banner and OGB eEnrollment portal for all enrollments, terminations, and changes, including those requiring qualifying events.
  • Computes premium adjustments for contract employees.
  • Maintains retirement enrollments in state retirement and Banner systems.
  • Coordinates retirement enrollments. Facilitates the employee retirement process by answering questions accurately, researching information when necessary, and completing the applicable retirement forms. Submits forms to the retirement systems.
  • Serves as a liaison with state retirement agencies. Works with benefit vendors, state retirement system offices, and OGB to resolve benefit issues in a timely manner.
  • Reconciles monthly benefit invoices following proper procedures and provides invoices to the HR Director and Payroll/Accounting for review.
  • Reconciles monthly retirement invoices to ensure contributions are withheld, employees are credited accurately, and any applicable back payments are credited in a timely manner.
  • Creates and maintains standard operating procedures for assigned tasks.
  • Reviews assigned payroll processing error reports and makes corrections as needed to ensure a clean payroll run.
  • Maintains and coordinates Workers’ Compensation, FMLA, and ADA programs.
  • Tracks and monitors employees’ service dates/adjusted leave service dates and calculates corrections to leave accrual as needed.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date leave information in Banner to ensure employee compensation is calculated correctly.
  • Prepares, generates and analyzes ongoing and ad-hoc special reports pertaining to employee personnel information and data, including HR metrics such as staffing levels, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, applicant tracking, affirmative action/EEO, promotions, etc.
  • Develop and execute test plans for new software/programs to ensure working properly and meeting customer/stakeholder needs.
  • Maintains compliance at all times with federal, state, LCTCS, and Nunez Community College laws, and regulations.
  • Liaison for payroll to assist in payroll processing and/or updates.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of employer benefit plan structures.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills and ability to work efficiently.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven knowledge and proficient use of a variety of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications.
  • Ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization.
  • HR best practices and laws/regulations related to benefits and pensions.
