Position: EMS Education Instructor - Adjunct
Department: EMS Education
Reports To: EMS Program Manager
Position Summary
The EMS Instructor plans, supports and delivers instruction for credit-based college courses in the EMS program or related courses. Instructors participate in the assessment for the program as well as providing instruction in both the classroom and lab environment. Classes take place on the Nunez Community College campus in Chalmette, LA. Classes will start at the beginning of June and go until August (Summer Session). If successful in the role, you will be invited to return for the following semester and / or fill a possible faculty position.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Nationally Registered Paramedic.
- State Licensed Paramedic.
- Ability to become an EMS Instructor in the state of Louisiana.
- Minimum of 2-years field experience as a paramedic providing direct patient care.
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience in teaching in the classroom.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- American Heart Association Instructor in ACLS, BLS and PALS.
- National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Instructor in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support.
- Licensed EMS Instructor with the state of Louisiana.
- Previous experience with higher education.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in face to face classes including preparing and delivering curriculum and supporting and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Support student learning and development through use of student conferences and mentoring activities, student feedback, including supporting a community of learning on the campus.
- Participate in assessment at the program, departmental and college level for ongoing improvement and in relation to special tasks or projects.
- Assist Program Director with scheduling of clinical / field practicums.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: When Applicable
- Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
- Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
- Ability to function in a high-pressure, stressful environment and meet stringent deadlines.
- Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
- Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb.
