Position: Mentor for Summer College & Career Readiness Academy

Reports To: Director of Workforce Development

Position Summary

Nunez Community College is seeking a part-time, temporary Mentor for our Summer College & Career Readiness Academy who will mentor and supervise up to 45 Career Exploration students during the six-week summer program. The Mentor will also attend off-campus field trips with students. MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE.

The program will run Monday – Thursday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, June 2nd – July 10th. The Mentor’s hours will be 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. There will be a Mentor orientation prior to the program start date of June 2nd.

This program will introduce the participants to our various education/training programs at Nunez Community College. The goal is for them to decide on a career path and possibly register for dual enrollment at their High School or Nunez Community College.

Duties of the Mentor include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implementation and coordination of the prepared program and schedule.
  • Assist with any necessary changes to the program as conflicts arise.
  • Introduce representatives from various industry sectors who will be leading class discussions at on-campus and off-campus visits.
  • Assist with moderating discussions and keeping order during discussions.
  • Supervise the students participating in Powered Industrial Trucking and CPR certifications.
  • Assist with Lunch preparations for students when necessary.
  • Meet daily with the Summer College and Career Readiness Academy Team to discuss the current day activities and prepare for next-day activities

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age.

Required Experience

  • One (1) year of education or summer camp counselor experience working with grades 8-12.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Microsoft Office skills

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field.

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of education or summer camp counselor experience working with grades 8-12.
