Position: Welding Instructor - Adjunct (Part-time)
Department: Career and Technical Education
Reports to: Dean of Instruction
Position Summary
The Welding Adjunct (part-time) Instructor prepares for and delivers instruction of courses in Welding.
Classes to take place on the Nunez Community College campus in Chalmette, LA. Classes will start in August 2024 and end in December 2024 for the Fall 2024 semester. If successful in the role, adjunct instructors will be invited to return in subsequent semesters.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides instruction in both face-to-face and online classes, including preparing and delivering curricula and supporting and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Fosters student learning, development, and workplace readiness through quality instruction and mentoring/advising activities.
- Evaluates student performance, submit student grades, prepare students for certification testing, and report certification results to program chair and Director of Institutional Effectiveness.
- Participates in assessment at the program, departmental, and college level for ongoing improvement and in relation to special tasks or projects.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction or Vice Chancellor for Education, Training, and Student Success.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- At least five (5) years of industry experience and industry-based certifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated success in training, education, or field experience.
- Extensive knowledge of the content area and the ability to teach it effectively.
- Ability to do the following: use assigned email address (and check it often); upload course materials as necessary; create basic documents as needed; follow instructions on how to enter grades or other tasks required on the computer.
- Should be prepared to assist in advancing both credit and noncredit training options for students.
- Effective classroom management, including maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Records Management.
- Knowledge and commitment to institutional mission and values and the ability to work with stakeholders across the college to achieve and uphold them.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior community college teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
- Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery.
- Ability to teach evening classes.
