Nunez Community College announced on May 20, 2020 the creation of a $500 "We Give A Hoot About You" Scholarship for every graduating senior in the Chalmette High School Class of 2020.
Dr. Tina Tinney, Chancellor of Nunez, made the announcement via video in a congratulatory message to the graduates. Chancellor Tinney shared, "We are 'Pelican Proud' of the CHS graduates and their accomplishments during this very different school year. Nunez wanted to find a way to recognize the students' potential and support their future academic endeavors."
With that goal in mind, the "We Give A Hoot" Scholarship was adopted. When a 2020 CHS graduate enrolls in six or more credit hours during the summer 2020 term, they will receive a $500 scholarship to assist with their summer tuition. All classes for the summer term will be held online. Successful completion of all summer classes could result in an additional award for the Fall 2020 semester.
Word spread quickly about the awesome opportunity for students to accelerate their academics by starting this summer instead of the Fall. Proud CHS 2020 graduate, Lennon Turner, shared his excitement about the scholarship, "I'm proud to choose Nunez Community College as my next step. In these trying times when it's safer for everyone to stay close to home, Nunez CC is there for me, making sure I don't lose any time and providing me with the classes I need that will transfer to the university of my choice in the future."
