Nunez Community College in Chalmette proudly celebrated the graduation of eight Practical Nursing students in a pinning ceremony May 20 on the Nunez campus.
The nursing grads participated in the first ceremony to welcome family and friends to the Nunez campus since 2019 due to social distancing and other protocols related to COVID-19.
“This group of ladies has been resilient. They started this program at the beginning of the pandemic and have finished strong,” said Nunez Practical Nursing Program Director Lauren Winters. “The nursing faculty is proud of them and we can’t wait to see them in their future endeavors.”
The bond formed between the Class of Spring 2021 while completing a rigorous curriculum during a pandemic was verbalized by student speaker Hanna Rodriguez of Slidell.
“Y’all are more than my classmates. Y’all are my sisters,” Rodriguez told her fellow graduates during her remarks.
Three graduates were recognized with awards during the pining ceremony. The Spirit Award, which is chosen by the students, went to Nichole Offord of New Orleans. The Academic Achievement award for highest GPA went to Emily-Joyce Marquez of Chalmette. And the Florence Nightingale Award, which is chosen by the nursing faculty, went to Jessica Joseph of New Orleans.
