Nunez Community College in Chalmette will host three free child development sessions in the coming months.
The series, scheduled for March, April and August, will offer two-hour, workshop-style sessions for parents hosted by Nunez’s Care and Development of Young Children (CDYC) Program in the Fine Arts Center on the Nunez campus. The sessions include:
Markers for Success in Children Under 5
March 18, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Looking at physical, language, cognitive, social-emotional and creative development for specific skills that must be addressed before the child enters Kindergarten.
STEAM Activities for Families with Children Ranging from Childcare to Middle School
April 22, 9:30 am – 11:30 am
Families and children will be introduced to Fun Earth Day activities to do as a family that address Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math skills.
Transitions and Self-Esteem in Children
August 12, 9:30 am – 11:30 am
How to help alleviate anxiety and fear in children transitioning through grade levels or changing schools and a look at how this affects their self-esteem.
The sessions are free to parents, caregivers and any individuals wishing to learn more about child development. Space is limited, so participants must register a week before each session by contacting CDYC Program Chair Kathy Huff at 504-278-6288 or khuff@nunez.edu.
