The Nunez Community College chapter of Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society is requesting the community’s help to fill 20 Easter Baskets for the children in the Family Violence Program of St. Bernard (FVPSB).
Gamma Beta Phi is requesting donations of candy, stuffed animals, small toys, coloring books, crayons or markers, reading books, picture books and other appropriate items to fill the baskets. All items should be new and in their original packaging.
Donations can be dropped off inside the Administration Building on the Nunez campus through Wednesday, March 27. Donors entering the Administration Building will see a table to their right where they can leave donations.
Members of Gamma Beta Phi will assemble the baskets and deliver them to the FVPSB.
The Family Violence Program of St. Bernard provides emergency services and shelter to women and children fleeing domestic violence. More details about the program can be found at fvpsb.org and the organization’s crisis line can be reached at 504-277-3177.
While the Nunez chapter of Gamma Beta Phi also conducts a Christmas toy drive each winter for the FVPSB, Kim Doty, Nunez’s Gamma Beta Phi sponsor, said Easter often gets less attention for community donations. But, year after year, the community turns up to help make a happy Easter.
“Our community has always stepped up and made the children in the shelter feel special. Especially at Easter with donations of baskets filled with treats,” said Dawn Asevado, Housing Coordinator for FVPSB.
