Three Nunez Community College faculty members were recognized with a special luncheon April 29 to celebrate their nomination for the 2024 Excellence In Teaching Award.

The Excellence In Teaching Award, which is accompanied by the Lamarque Endowed Professorship, will be announced May 16 during Nunez’s 2024 Commencement Ceremony at the Sigur Civic Center in Chalmette.

Nunez hosts its annual Excellence In Teaching Luncheon to gather the nominees, along with all faculty and staff who are able to attend, to spotlight the nominees ahead of commencement.

This year’s nominees included Kathleen Huff, Program Director for the Care and Development of Young Children and Teaching: Grades 1-5 programs, Duane Jardine, Interim Program Chair for the Aerospace Manufacturing Technology program, and Brittney Zaffuto, Director of the Practical Nursing program.

“We are fortunate to have three incredible faculty selected as this year’s nominees,” said Nunez Chancellor Dr. Tina Tinney. “They each have contributed their time, talent, effort and passion to ensure the success of their students. Their nominations are well-deserved.”

Each nominee was introduced by a colleague of their choosing to summarize their careers in education and offer insight into the excellence that earned them a nomination by their faculty peers.

The ceremony, along with the 2024 Excellence In Teaching Committee, was led by Nunez’s 2023 winner Dr. Alaa Khalil, Associate Professor of Natural Sciences.

A five-course lunch was prepared and served by students in Nunez’s Culinary Arts and Entrepreneurship program.

Registration is currently open for the Summer and Fall 2024 terms at Nunez.edu. Summer classes begin June 3 and Fall classes begin Aug. 20.
