Students studying English Language Learning or working toward their High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE) in Nunez Community College’s Adult Education program may qualify to enroll in the college’s Welding or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) programs for free this fall thanks to grant funding.
A Rapid Response Grant from the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) will provide funding for up to 10 Adult Education students to enroll simultaneously in one of several short-term career-technical programs. Polling conducted amongst Adult Education students identified welding and CNA as the most in-demand programs offered at Nunez.
The CNA program is a six-week course offered on weekends during the Fall 2024 semester. The Welding certificate program can be completed in eight weeks in the Fall.
“These two programs are the most achievable and the most requested,” said Nunez STEAM Director Dr. Julie Rexford. “(Workforce Director) Brian (Gibson) gets requests for Welding on a regular basis. And (Adult Education Director) Bradley (Narcisse) surveyed students, and medical professions are at the top of the list, so CNA is the best way to get them started.”
Additional career-technical programs are included in the grant funding, but students must be currently enrolled or plan to enroll in Nunez’s Adult Education courses to qualify for any of the grant-funded career-technical programs.
Students interested in this opportunity can contact Workforce Office Manager Dekana St. Germain at dstgermain@nunez.edu or submit an inquiry form at Nunez.edu/STEAM or Nunez.edu/Workforce. Students can register for Adult Education classes at Nunez.edu/Adult-Education.
