Nunez SGA Officer Inductees

Nunez Community College inducted its 2024-2025 Student Government Association officers and senators Sept. 17 as part of Constitution Day. Nunez Community College installed its Student Government Association officers and senators for the 2024-2025 academic year as part of Constitution Day activities on Sept. 17.

Dr. Cherie Kay LaRocca, Vice Chancellor for Education, Training and Student Success, swore in the four officers and four senators.

Officers include:
President: Jade Griffith of New Orleans
Vice President: Charla Bell of New Orleans
Secretary: Kymberly Cooper of New Orleans
Treasurer: Asia Fleming of Harvey

Senators include:
Hannah Gehring of Sugarland, Texas, representing Allied Health Programs
Kathleen Hampton of Ponchatoula, representing Academic Programs
Troy Sino Jr. of Chalmette, representing Allied Health Programs
John Tsai of Ridgewood, New Jersey, representing Technical Programs

“This year the SGA at Nunez is focused on enhancing both the on- and off-campus student experience,” said SGA President Jade Griffith. “Our goal is to alleviate student stress by promoting mental health awareness and ensuring access to key resources that help all students thrive academically and personally.”

Nunez added senators to its SGA lineup for the first time in several years because all four elected officers are enrolled in the Practical Nursing program. The senators’ votes will balance decisions to ensure that students in all Nunez programs are fairly represented.

“We’re excited about having an all-nursing leadership team for the first time in SGA history. Nursing students traditionally haven’t had as much representation in student government, and this change offers a great opportunity to ensure their voices are heard,” said Griffith. “Despite our backgrounds, we are committed to making decisions that are fair and beneficial for the entire student body, without bias.”

Nunez SGA’s first big event of the semester was Fall Fest on Sept. 25. SGA purchased and distributed free commemorative T-shirts and jambalaya for students, faculty and staff. The event was held in front of the Physical Activity Center on the Nunez campus and featured music, games and face painting.
