For the fourth consecutive year the Nunez Community College Chapter of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society has earned an Exemplary Chapter Award for its service to the community.
Nunez was one of 14 college and university Gamma Beta Phi (GBP) chapters to earn the Exemplary Chapter Award. Another nine chapters were recognized with the Distinguished Chapter Award. Nunez’s GBP chapter has earned either Exemplary or Distinguished designation reaching all the way back to 2007.
Joining Nunez on the Exemplary list were universities like Southeastern Louisiana University, Mississippi State University, University of Mississippi and University of Oklahoma. The full list of award winners can be viewed at gammabetaphi.org.
Each year the Nunez GBP chapter hosts Easter and Christmas toy drives to benefit children in the Family Violence Program of St. Bernard, a Thanksgiving food drive to benefit Nunez’s Pelican Pantry or the St. Bernard Food Bank, and other volunteer opportunities throughout the year. The chapter hosts an induction ceremony for new members each fall.
Students looking to enroll at Nunez this fall can register now for Mini-Session B at Nunez.edu. The mini-mester runs Oct. 15-Dec. 11 and offers transferable courses like Art Appreciation, World Regional Geography, Louisiana History, Physical Science, Intro to Psychology, and Classical Theater, with many courses offered online.
Multiple courses are also available for career-technical programs like Emergency Medical Services, Food Services Management, Carpentry and Construction Management.
