Select students in Nunez Community College’s Fiber Optics certification program will have their tuition covered thanks to a $10,000 donation from Cox Communications.
Representatives from Cox made the donation during Nunez’s annual Scholarship Breakfast, which took place Oct. 25 in the Student Testing and Career Counseling Center on the Nunez campus.
Sunni LeBeouf, Market Vice President of Cox New Orleans, and Chad Adams, Human Resources Business Partner for Cox, presented the donation to Nunez Chancellor Tina Tinney, Ed. D., STEAM Director Julie Rexford, Ed. D., and Nunez Foundation Board Chair Clifford Englande.
“This Scholarship Donation will allow our program to continue to train individuals to work in the Fiber Optic Industry, helping to strengthen our community's communication needs,” said Rexford, whose STEAM division administers the Fiber Optics courses. “We are very excited to continue this partnership with Cox Communications.”
Cox previously donated $10,000 to the program during the Fall 2023 semester.
In the event, LeBeouf briefly addressed the audience, which included both students who received a scholarship this semester as well as the individuals and organizations that funded the scholarships. She spoke about the importance of personal and professional connections, both of which will be facilitated thanks to Cox’s donations.
“At Cox Communications, we are laser-focused on building a more connected future—and that starts with a skilled local workforce," said LeBeouf. “In addition to our investment of $12 billion in our fiber-powered network over the past 10 years nationwide and our longstanding commitment to Cox’s unique, affordable internet programs Connect2Compete and ConnectAssist, supporting Nunez’s fiber optics program aligns with our mission to serve the communities where we live and work.”
Nunez’s next Fiber Optics certification course will be offered in March. Students will have the opportunity to earn five distinct fiber optics certifications over the course of seven days.
Students interested in enrolling in the Fiber Optics certification courses at Nunez can submit an inquiry form at Nunez.edu/STEAM or contact Rexford for more details at jrexford@nunez.edu.
Registration is currently open for both Winter Intersession (Dec. 16-Jan. 13) and Spring 2025 (classes begin Jan. 14) at Nunez.edu. Questions about the PTEC program can be emailed to ksteib@nunez.edu.
