Grants, Scholarships Available for Education Courses at Nunez

Nunez Community College has grants and scholarships available for childcare teachers in Orleans Parish. Grant funds are available to provide technical assistance, stipends, mentoring and a scholarship for the Child Development Associate exam. An informational meeting is set for Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building on the Nunez campus.

Nunez Community College in Chalmette is providing grants and scholarships to childcare teachers in Orleans Parish working to move up the career ladder.

Spring classes start Jan. 14 for the Care and Development of Young Children program at Nunez. The program offers pathways to certifications such as the Child Development Associate (CDA), Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate (ECAC), Technical Diploma (TD) and Associate of Applied Science (AAS).

Thanks to grant funding from Agenda For Children in New Orleans, childcare teachers from Orleans Parish are eligible to receive technical assistance, stipends, mentoring, and a scholarship to cover the cost of the CDA exam.

CDYC Program Director Kathleen Huff will provide additional details on Wednesday, Dec. 4, as she hosts an info meeting on the Nunez campus. The meeting will take place in the Fine Arts Building from 6 p.m.-7 p.m.

Huff said students entering the program this January will be able to earn all their credentials by May 2025.

CDA courses will meet in person on Mondays in the spring with additional online sessions. Specific TD and AAS courses will be available online.
